FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR Dear Scrum Alliance Member
|
| |
| |
January proved to be a whirlwind of activity, and February will no doubt be just as busy. My first stop this month is the Scrum Alliance Regional Gathering: Portugal, where I'm looking forward to meeting some of our wonderful community members and checking out the great presentations.
I'm also thrilled to highlight some very big news this month -- the formal launch of a new program for instructors and training organizations that offer certification and non-certification courses pertinent to agile and Scrum practitioners!
The Scrum Alliance Registered Education Provider (REP) program provides organizations an affiliation with, and endorsement by, the Scrum Alliance. REPs also receive access to course advertisement services on our website, conference discounts, and specially designed logos and seals to highlight their affiliation with their well-earned REP designation in print and online.
We launched the Registered Education Provider program to offer a common marketplace for training topics of interest to agile and Scrum teams. As part of the application process, the Scrum Alliance verifies the qualifications of the REP applicants and trainers, and validates course content. To become a REP, instructors must demonstrate an ability to convey their expertise through courses pertinent to agile practitioners and all courses must be approved prior to publication on our site. Once an organization is awarded the REP designation, the Scrum Alliance reviews the performance of the trainers and REP organizations to assure that Scrum Alliance members receive the best possible training.
We know how important solid, informative Scrum and agile training is to companies and we're very happy about the excitement this program is generating. In fact, we've even created an exclusive opt-in email list to keep members informed of the program's latest information and breaking news. Head over to our website to learn more about the REP program, download an application packet, and get ready to be a part of a new way agile professionals will transform the world of work.

Agile2011 Update
The Agile2011 conference will be held in August 8-12th in Salt Lake City, Utah. We will be taking the opportunity to celebrate 10 years since the signing of the Agile Manifesto. The theme is: Back to the Future - 10 years of Agility and Beyond!
10 years ago the Agile Manifesto was written and signed in Snowbird, just outside Salt Lake City. Much has happened in the world of software development and agility in those 10 years since. Agile2011 returns to Salt Lake City to rediscover some of our roots and to try to discover new ways of improving software development.
Agile2011 is the premier conference on software agility and what is happening in the world of software development. We expect over 1500 attendees at the conference and celebration. More details on the event can be found at http://agile2011.agilealliance.org.
The conference planning is well underway and early indications are that we are in for a huge event. This year we have taken a 2-iteration approach to handling conference submissions and the response has been overwhelming. We received nearly 500 proposals prior to our early bird submission deadline. This is a fantastic response and our reviewers are now actively working to provide initial feedback. We're accepting submissions until February 14th, so get them in soon!
Registrations for the conference are now being accepted, take advantage of the Super Early Bird rates and visit: http://agile2011.agilealliance.org/registration.
If you (or your company) would like to be a conference sponsor please contact Phil Brock, the Agile Alliance Managing Director and Conference Sponsor Liaison.

Take the 2010/2011 Agile Salary Survey
Have you ever wondered how your salary stacks up against other professionals in the Agile community? Now's your chance to find out. ASPE-SDLC and VersionOne recently announced the launch of the 2010/2011 Agile Salary Survey, designed to gather income data from the worldwide Agile community.
"In the face of the economic turmoil of 2009, Agile professional salary results showed a highly compensated profession filled with younger but very experienced professionals. I am very excited to see if the profession has broadened to include a more diverse field of professionals (last year only 19% of practitioners were women) and how much salaries have increased as Agile practices have gone mainstream," says ASPE, Inc. President, David Mantica.
The survey is open for participation until February 28, 2011. Respondents may elect to have results of the survey emailed to them once the survey has ended. Whether you're new to the Agile community or a seasoned veteran, your input is very valuable and helps provide an informative view on the economic health of our growing profession.
