Letter from the Managing Director

Carol McEwan
ACE – Advocacy, Community, Education. Scrum Alliance's vision is to provide ACE to anyone interested in Scrum. This month, let's take a look at the Scrum Alliance Community. Did you know that more than 4,000 members join Scrum Alliance every month? The community is growing and the enthusiasm is contagious! This growth provides us with so much opportunity – to come together, share ideas, and support each other to be successful in all we do.

I had the opportunity to attend the first-ever Scrum Australia Gathering, held just last week in Sydney, and I certainly experienced contagious enthusiasm there. It was amazing to see the support offered by the event sponsors, the energy across more than 300 attendees, the quality of the presentations, and the dedication of the event organizers and volunteers. I have to believe everyone in attendance left feeling invigorated and with an increased passion for Scrum. Gatherings like this are being held all over the world, organized by volunteers who want to help you succeed. So far this year, Scrum enthusiasts have attended Regional Scrum Gatherings in Japan and Australia, and there are more scheduled throughout the year. Be sure to check out the upcoming regional events near you.

Scrum Alliance also hosts two Global Scrum Gatherings every year. The sold-out Las Vegas Gathering is just a couple weeks away and the Paris Gathering will be held September 23–25, 2013. There are plenty of opportunities to share your Scrum experience with others. Don't miss the opportunity to be invigorated and renew your passion for Scrum.

Agile Atlas Status
Expanded translations, more GASPs, and new status boards

The Agile Atlas has seen some great additions and improvements in the past month. We now have eight translations, including Persian, which is surely the most attractive so far. We have three “GASP" (Generally Accepted Scrum Practices) articles: User Stories, Start-up Sprint, and Release Sprint – with a few articles being written and room for yours. Perhaps most exciting, we’ve arranged with LeanKit Kanban to provide two status boards to show our status and progress.

Three Big Insights from Scrum
Bolivia Day

By Juan Banda, organizer of Scrum Bolivia Day

On March 30, we held the second Scrum Bolivia Day conference, and I'd like to share with you some aspects that made this event different.

1. I'll start by saying something anecdotal, which was that the very day of the conference, we, the organizing team, arrived an hour early to find that an administrative error on the conference hotel's part had put us in the conference room next to the one we had rented.

Did You Know?
State of Scrum Study draws great participation

The State of Scrum study drew 500 participants from various organizations around the globe. The study compares current trends and success factors in adopting and practicing Scrum. Participants included practitioners, employers, and education providers.

The entire study will be available for download on the Scrum Alliance website this summer. Thanks to everyone who took part in the study. Congratulations to James from the U.S. and Chris from the U.K., who were randomly selected as the winners of the $500 (USD) gift certificates.

In response to your feedback on the newsletter, each month we’ll recommend a few member-submitted articles that are insightful, helpful, or entertaining for the Scrum community. Take a peek, read the articles, and join the conversation:

Experiences in Agile Coaching: Courage as a Value

Seeing the World through Agile-Colored Glasses

Agile Does Damage

These are just a few of the valuable articles you and your colleagues submit each month. Invest some time to review more articles on the Scrum Alliance site and discover nuggets of advice or insight that will help you improve in your Scrum role.

We Want Your Feedback

As part of strengthening the Scrum Alliance brand, we're bringing a new look and feel to our visual assets. You've already seen some of these changes, like the redesign of this e-newsletter. Beginning May 1, you'll see more and more assets transition to the updated brand.

Two important elements we're currently addressing are certification seals and logos. We want to ensure that the brand of your professional Scrum credentials are aligned with our new look and feel, and we'd like your feedback.

We have final alternatives for the new Scrum Alliance certification seals and logos. Within the next week, you'll see a survey request on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The link will take you to a site where you'll be able to vote for your preferred options.

These are your certification seals and logos; they promote you and your knowledge. Tell us which you'd be most proud to feature on your profile.
