Letter From the Managing Director

Carol McEwan

Scrum Alliance is growing!  We welcome about 5,000 newly certified members every month to our community of more than 325,000 members worldwide. This continued growth in the community reflects the value both individuals and organizations find in Scrum. And as the Scrum Alliance community grows, your support team grows as well. I’d like to introduce you to the newest members of the team, who are here to support you along your Scrum journey.

Kelli Davis, CSM, joined the Community team, supporting membership services.

Jolene Sullivan, CSM, provides program administration on the Education team.

Deb Klein, CSM, joined the Community team, supporting gatherings and sponsorships.

Shawn Tretter, CSM, brings his SEO/SEM expertise to the Advocacy team, supporting our SEO/SEM strategy.

Heather Leigh will fulfill an important role as Director of Communications and Public Relations.

Bob Nedbal, CSM, brings non-profit association experience to the team as Director of Operations for Scrum Alliance.

Each Scrum Alliance staff member is happy to support you on your Scrum journey. So go ahead, ask for help, send a question, or make a suggestion by sending a message to support@scrumalliance.org. You’ll get a response from the appropriate person as quickly as possible.

Scrum Coaching Retreat Follow-Up

On June 9-11, Scrum Alliance held its third Scrum Coaching Retreat. It took place in London at The Lensbury hotel. The 76 participants hit the ground running, passionately digging into team formation and topic refinement. The event showed that Scrum Coaching Retreats are beginning to evolve and grow now that we are establishing some consistency in planning and execution.

The outstanding organizing team included Mark Summers, Helen Meek, Benjamin Cooke, and Zia Malik. They provided a collaborative space with just enough structure to help attendees stay focused but enough freedom and latitude to openly explore ideas and thoughts. Read here for more information on this event and upcoming Coaching Retreats!

Scrum in Your Organization

Do you know managers who are tantalized by Scrum – but honestly don’t know if their organization is ready to take it on? It’s a good question, since effective Scrum practice requires a change in mind-set – a cultural change throughout the organization. Hear from the experts what makes an organization ready to take the plunge! Read Now

First CSP Retreat a Great Success

The first-ever CSP+ Retreat was held at the Regional Scrum Gathering in Shanghai, China, on June 6. All participants joined in great topic discussions, networking, and personal growth. More than 40 people attended the retreat, including 4 CSTs and 20+ CSPs (some local and some from overseas), plus a number of CSM, CSPO, and CSD holders who are interested in becoming CSPs.

Great food and beer kicked off the retreat, and our speakers presented two terrific talks: Ken Rubin discussed "Anti-fragility" and Kiro Harada spoke about Kaizen. Conference facilitator Bill Li, a local CST, led multiple group discussions on how to help China develop more CSPs. The discussion results will help the community promote and advance the CSP certification in China.
